Unity and Reconciliation
January 2010. Looking ahead in 2010, the Unity and Reconciliation Promise Group will be sponsoring several "Heart of the Matter" programs for Sisters to attend.
The Leadership Teams of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (L.A.) are sponsoring "Charism Alive in Global Community" on March 6 in Concord, CA and March 7 in Lakewood, CA. The program is an opportunity to hear Sister Lorraine Delaney, former General Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery. Sister Lorraine will share her unique international experience of how the Sisters of St. Joseph charism reaches around the globe and how the Community of St. Joseph can contribute to the transformation of the world.
In 2009 the Unity and Reconciliation Promise Group sponsored a presentation by Lynn Levo, CSJ, PH.D. on "Skills for Bridging the Interpersonal Gap" that was attended by Sisters, co-ministers and friends.
Standing with People Who Are Poor
January 2010. In January 2010, the Standing with the Poor Promise Group delivered materials to the Congregation about the issue of Human Trafficking.
In 2009, the Standing with the Poor Promise Group focused on Immigration issues. A packet including readings, small group processes and prayer services on the topic of Immigration was distributed throughout the Congregation. Opportunities to respond individually and as a Congregation were sought.
Ecological Justice
January 2010. The Eco-Justice Promise Committee shepherded home energy audits for the Congregation in 2009 and are seeking opportunities to put audit recommendations into action and into budgets.
Eco-Justice members promoted and attended two events in October 2009: the annual Bioneers Conference in San Rafael and Event 350 locally. In addition to going to Irvine Regional Park, the Sisters at St. Joseph Center rang the bell outside Sacred Heart Chapel 350 times to bring awareness to the level of CO2 in our atmosphere.
The Committee is continuing to seek opportunities to bring awareness to eco-justice issues, with an emphasis on zero-waste and purchasing practices that affect the environment.
